Riding Trails
Fence Foothills Equestrian Nature Center features six miles of scenic riding trails connected to the FETA system, winding through open meadows and hardwood forest.
FETA History
The Foothills Equestrian Trails Association (FETA) preserves the historic trail system woven through Hunting Country in Polk County, North Carolina. Many of these trails date back to the 1920s foxhunting era โ and some even follow routes first travelled by early settlers and Native Americans.
Spanning an estimated 125โ150 miles, the trails are privately owned. Generous landowners allow access to FETA members, with membership dues covering maintenance, admin costs, and community events โ no landowner is paid.
Formed in 1993 amid growing development concerns, FETA united riders and landowners to protect this treasured network. Today, it remains committed to preserving open space and the areaโs unique equestrian lifestyle, working alongside partners including Fence Foothills Equestrian Nature Center.
FETA operates under landowner leadership, with a Board elected by trail owners. Members ride as welcomed guests and must follow established rules and each landownerโs wishes.
